Mary Russell’s War and Other Stories

A collection of my shorter memoirs will be released this month in the United States, in the electronic form on Tuesday, to be followed by a paper format later in the month.

(The UK version will follow somewhat later this autumn, apologies for the delay.)  I hope you enjoy the stories in this collection, I find it nice to have them all together in one volume at last.

The dates and events they describe are as follows:

“Mary’s Christmas” takes place primarily from August-December, 1911.

“Mary Russell’s War” reproduces my illustrated wartime journal (August 4, 1914—April 6, 1915.)

“Beekeeping for Beginners” describes the start of The Beekeeper’s Apprentice, except from Holmes’ point of view, covering our meeting on April 8, 1915 to the first Zeppelin bombardment of London, May 31, 1915.

“Mrs Hudson’s Case” is set in October, 1918.

“The Marriage of Mary Russell” about our event-filled wedding, in February, 1921.

“Birth of a Green Man” is undated, but took place in the early 1920s.

A Venomous Death” I believe took place in the summer of 1923.

My Story” and “A Case in Correspondence” take place in the spring of 1992, but reflect the 1924 events in God of the Hive. The latter here reproduces the actual postcards of my correspondence with various people, after Holmes went missing.

“Stately Holmes” took place during Christmas, 1925.

  1. Jann Lichty says:

Love your work! Can’t get enough Russell and Holmes. Challenging, engrossing, intelligent, witty, delicious. More, more!

    • Mary Russell says:

Thank you. That is very kind. I will have a new memoir out June of 2018, called “Island of the Mad.” I hope you will enjoy it also.
