“Mary Russell’s War & other stories”

Those of you who have enjoyed my shorter pieces over the years, as well as those of you who have not been able to read them for lack of an electronic reader, will be pleased to hear that my editor and literary agent, Laurie R. King, is publishing an anthology of the collected stories, titled Mary Russell’s War and Other Stories of Suspense.  It will be published as an e-book and as in paper, complete with all the illustrations of my war journals, and contains:

“Mary’s Christmas” (contains events of my childhood, primarily from August-December, 1911)

“Mary Russell’s War” (my wartime journal from August 4, 1914 to April 6, 1915)

“Beekeeping for Beginners” (opens April 8, 1915, with the story of The Beekeeper’s Apprentice but from Holmes’ point of view.  It ends shortly after the first Zeppelin bombardment of London, May 31, 1915)

“Mrs Hudson’s Case” (set in October 1918)

“The Marriage of Mary Russell” (February 1921, just after the events of A Monstrous Regiment of Women)

“Birth of a Green Man” (takes place in the early 1920s)

A Venomous Death” (in early summer—but was it 1922 or 1923?(

My Story” and “A Case in Correspondence” (take place in the spring of 1992, but talks about the 1924 events in God of the Hive)

“Stately Holmes” (December, 1925)  This last is a story previously unseen in public, which I agreed to permit Ms. King to include in this collection.

Greatly looking forward to it. I did get a 404 message when trying to use the share button 🙁

  2. KK says:

I just finished Mary Russell’s War and Other Stories of Suspense, and I’m wondering if Mary is 92 whether Sherlock is blessed with amazing longevity since he’s 30 years her senior.

    • Mary Russell says:

Holmes has concocted an elixir that has blessed us all with longevity and good health. Thank you for asking.
